Imagination

It has been fun to watch Deacon's imagination grow lately. We went to the grocery store last night and as I was looking at the Summer clearance section, Deacon spotted a bucket he wanted. The bucket had a little shovel hooked to the handle and when I gave it to Deacon he wanted to take it off. of course. He was able to pull one side of the handle off and get the shovel off. After he did that he started to pretend to spray everything in the store with the end of the handle he had taken off. I asked him what he was doing and he said "sprinkler." I wasn't planning to buy the bucket, but he was so cute with it that I couldn't resist. Later that night he wanted to have it in the tub with him. He took the handle completely off the bucket and pretended it was a fishing pole in the tub. He also put his feet in the bucket and said he was in a boat and started to sing what he could remember of "row, row, row your boat." I was surprised at how imaginative he was with a simple bucket with a handle and shovel. When we went to the park last Wednesday it was packed with kids. Deacon enjoyed the other kids and would tell them "hi, my name Deacon." I was impressed that he knew that. The other kids kept yelling the word "shellyington," which I don't think is a real word and never figured out what it meant, but Deacon thought they were yelling "Chuggington," which is a show he likes to watch with trains, so he would yell that back. It was pretty funny.

On a lesser note, sadly we have entered "Tantrum Town!" Deacon can through a mighty tantrum when he wants to. The past few days he has been very upset and hard to handle when we try to change his diaper and his clothes at night and in the mornings. He ended up sleeping in the clothes he wore one day because he became so attached to them and would throw a huge tantrum when we tried to get him into his pj's. Sometimes you've got to pick your battles....

My friends and I enjoyed a nice girls weekend in St. George last week. It was a quick trip, but we had fun. We went shopping, out to eat, to the pool, and got pedicures.

Park, Phrases, and Mice

Due to some construction that is going on by my building, we have a few mice in my office right now. Yesterday I discovered that one had been in my desk drawer and had eaten some of my food. When I got home I told Deacon that I had a mouse eat some food in my drawer. He went into our kitchen and started to open the drawers and look for the mouse. It took it little bit of convincing before he understood that it was the in the drawer at my work. I’m sure he has no clue what work is... It was funny watching him try to find the mouse in our kitchen drawers.

On Wednesdays Deacon stays at the daycare all day instead of going to Grandma’s house. I try to take him to the park on our way home on these days because there is one right by the daycare. He even asks to go to the park every Wednesday now when I pick him up. He really enjoys the swing, the slides, and watching for trains to drive by. This past week he saw a kid hanging from the bar above the slide. He thought it was so cool and tried to do it himself, which he did successfully. He also saw a little boy do a cartwheel on the grass and attempted to do that, too, which was pretty cute to watch.

Deacon has also been picking up a little phrase each week it seems like. One week when I asked him to pick out his clothes in the morning, he started saying “how about… this one.” I guess I must say “how about” when I am helping him choose his clothes. This past week he keeps saying “that’s better” for everything. It’s fun to see what words and phrases he picks up on.
