June 2017

June was a good month.  Deacon got to go fishing for the very first time with Matt and Grandpa Mecham.  Matt said they had a good time and that Deacon had fun.  Deacon did get bored after a little while, but Matt said he went under the covered part of the boat and played with some fake worms and other fishing things for quite a while.  I'm glad he was able to go and catch some fish!

In June, we  also went to a Zoo Sunset Safari event where we got to see the animals in the evening.  I thought it would be less crowded since this was a "members only" event, but some company was also having a party at the same time, so it was just as crowded.  The good thing was that more of the animals were awake and moving around.  There were also a couple of baby animals to see including a giraffe, zebra, a two leopards.

Deacon and Livy started Preschool 1 swimming lessons this month; they both did great and really like to swim and get in the water.  I'm so glad Deacon likes swimming lessons now, because he did not enjoy Mom-and-Tot classes the last two years.  We also went to Kangaroo Zoo one afternoon.  Deacon and Livy enjoyed running around and playing while Emerson played on the floor and then fell asleep in the stroller.  In June, we also celebrate our 8 year anniversary, Father's Day, and Matt's birthday.

Deacon is so complimentary.  He is always saying nice things like "I like your shirt, mom," or "Dad, I love your hat." I think it's pretty cute.  Emerson has been quite the pincher lately.  When I am nursing him, he will pinch the back of my arm sometimes (Grandma has experienced this, too when she feeds him a bottle), or he pinches your face, nose, anything he can get a hold of.  He's even pinched my belly button.  I have to cut his fingernails almost weekly now; they're sharp! He is rolling around a ton, scooting backwards and in circles, and can now go from laying on the floor to sitting up by himself.

Emerson - 10 Months

It is definitely getting harder to take Emerson's monthly picture with him rolling all around. He has just barely started to clap, he will wave, and i'm pretty sure he was covering his eyes and playing peek-a-boo with me the other day. I have started to give him more finger & table foods. He has now had banana, watermelon, cheese, yogurt, black beans, avocado, Cheerios/puffs, and I tried cottage cheese, but we won't be doing that again for a while. Cottage cheese is messy and he kept spitting while he ate it and it would go everywhere! The watermelon was a mess, too, but he really seemed to like it. He is so funny the way he eats finger foods. He will grab one of whatever he is eating and hold one in each hand, and then try to use his fingers to eat the rest of the food that's available while he holds one in each hand the whole time (hopefully that made sense). Then when he is out of food, he'll look to me to give him more and I have to remind him that he still has two left, one in each hand. This is what made the watermelon very messy because he would squeeze the two pieces he was holding in his hands and the juice would drip all over. Luckily I got it all cleaned up and survived (:  He is still so happy and fun. He has started to make sounds in a sort of low, growl voice a lot lately. It's pretty cute, but I have no idea why he does it. I guess he's channeling his inner Batman. His naps have gown downhill this month. Most days he only takes a 1/2 hour nap in the morning and a 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon. If we are lucky, sometimes he does take a longer nap in the afternoon, but it's not something I can count on. I did get very lucky where he slept so much in the day for his first 6-7 months. He still sleeps through the night, so that's probably most important anyways. He's been doing this for a while, but he can now go from sitting to rolling on the floor. He seems like he's interested in crawling, but it hasn't happened yet, which is just fine with me. He has two teeth on the bottom, and I wish the rest would come all at once because he has a hard time for about a month before the tooth actually pops through.

Deacon 4 Year Pictures (and Family)

Last Saturday, we got Deacon's 4 year pictures taken and also did some family photos. I'm sure Matt wasn't happy about having to take family photos, but he did it anyways.

Deacon & Livy started swimming lessons on Saturday, too. They are now in Preschool Swim Level 1. Deacon did great and seemed to really enjoy himself (unlike our Mom & Tot class experience). His teacher seems nice and both kids love to be in the pool and go swimming now. Unfortunately my kid always seems to get sick... ): On Sunday afternoon, Matt noticed that Deacon's ears looked big. Both were red, warm, and swollen. We thought it might be an allergic reaction to something, so we tried some Benadryl first. After a few hours, it didn't seem any better, so we did a "virtual" doctor visit on my phone. The doctor said he thinks Deacon has an ear infection known as Swimmer's Ear. This is caused when water is trapped in the ear canal and bacteria starts to grow. We have to do ear drops 3 times a day for 7 days, and if his ears don't start to improve in a few days, we will do amoxicillin in conjunction with the drops. My poor boy is always sick with something. Luckily his ears don't seem to hurt him, but putting the drops in is not a fun thing for a 4 year old.
