May 2019

Our neighbor had some extra tickets to the Real Salt Lake game on May 4 she gave us. Emerson got to see Leo the Lion and Deacon got a free t-shirt.

We traveled to St. George for Memorial Day weekend. We did a few new things this time and enjoyed taking a break and playing outside.

Hidden Valley Park:
I was hoping the kids would play in the splash pad, but it was a little cold. Deacon found a friend that he played with and got in the water a little bit, but not too much.

Emer loved playing on this rock:

Gunlock National Park:
The reservoir was so full this year that it was overflowing, which created tons of waterfalls. This only happens once every 10 years or so. It was really cool and fun to go to a new place, but it was extremely crowded!

Deac enjoyed playing in the sand and getting his feet in the water:

Emer said this was his home:

 Golf Cart Rides:

St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm
Matt wanted to visit this museum and we didn't really know what to expect - it ended up being very small. We stopped on our way out of town on Monday. I think the kids had some fun, but I wouldn't go back.

Deacon 6 Year Birthday

Deacon is 6! He is doing really well in school and is working on his reading and handwriting. He loves playing games and making things/drawing pictures. He likes Pokemon, riding his bike, playing with cousins/friends, playing outside, making forts, and is very bright. He is a sweet boy, but is becoming increasingly challenging, is very stubborn, and only wants to do what he wants to do. I am hoping this can start to lesson with him turning 6, but only time will tell. He also likes to make others laugh, especially Emerson when he is hurt or unhappy; he is a really good big brother! There are times Emerson will hurt/hit Deacon and Deacon rarely hurts him back. They place nice together most of the time and have fun. He likes to collect rocks, play with play dough/slime, play with Legos, watch movies, and still loves Scooby-Doo. This year I have been able to get Deacon to branch out and watch some new movies he's never seen, so that's been fun. He loves green apples, they are his go-to snack and he made up his own breakfast that we call the "Deacon Special," which is a piece of toast with 1/2 Nutella and 1/2 cinnamon toast. He is also a big fan of whipped cream and marshmallows. We love our Deacon boy!

For Deacon's birthday, he and I went to Boondocks on Saturday, May 18 and then to Build-a-Bear. Boondocks gives a free pass on your birthday, so we used that and I got one, too. He got to try laser tag for the first time this year and really liked it. We did laser tag twice, arcade games, three 4D movies, and a go-kart ride. Build-a-Bear has a special birthday bear that you pay your age for, so we also went and got that on our way home.

Deacon's birthday was on Sunday, May 19, and we gave him his presents that morning. Later that night we invited some family over for a birthday party. Unfortunately, Deacon wasn't feeling very well by the end of the night and was tired. (Turns out he had strep throat; poor kid gets sick a lot and at the worst times). He got some fun presents and had fun opening them.

Happy Birthday, Deacon!
