First Hike

We took Deacon on his first hike last Saturday afternoon up Mueller Park Canyon.  He did very well and went farther than I thought he would. Since we were a bit slow, we had to keep moving to the side of the trail when other hikers, bikers, and joggers would pass us by. Deacon was so funny; one time he pushed me and Matt to the side and said "against" so he could "jog" by us. It was so funny that he wanted us to stand off to the side while he jogged by. When we got to the top of our hike there were some tee-pee looking things made out of logs. Deacon quite liked going in them and said they were his home. He also liked finding the potato bugs in that same area since we stopped for a little for him to explore. There are a couple of bridges and a stream up this canyon that Deacon really liked, too. When we got to the bottom, we stopped at the stream and took a break. Deacon had to go potty at this point so we figured he could go in the bushes/trees. He thought that was pretty fun and wanted to "go potty in the trees" again later that day. Hopefully we didn't start something... I told him that going in the trees is only for when he's hiking or camping. We had a fun hike and hopefully we'll be able to go again this summer if it doesn't get too hot too fast. It must have wore him out because he took almost a 4 hour nap that afternoon!

Here are a few pictures of us in the "homes:"

3 Year Pictures and Memorial Day Weekend

I took Deacon to get his 3-year pictures taken on Saturday. For once in our lives we didn't have to wait at all... it was wonderful! He was acting a bit shy and didn't let his personality come out too much this time, but we still got a few good ones. He was very good and did exactly what the photographer asked him to do. He does have a bit of a cheesy smile where he tends to close his eyes, so we had to try to get him to not do that.

The Pet-Co next door was holding an adoption event and Deacon and I went over to look at the dogs afterwards. He loved seeing all of the dogs and probably could have stayed for hours looking at and petting them if I let him. He does seem to love animals, especially dogs.

I bought a swing set for Deacon recently, and Matt was able to put it together on Memorial Day. I think Deacon was more interested in the tools and "helping" Daddy than he was for the actual swing set. He did swing a little bit and go down the slide the next day. He even told me that one of the swings was for him and that "little brother" could swing on "that one." I was surprised that he was willing to share his swings.

And here he is trying out his scooter he got for his birthday:

SUPER Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit this week to look at some homes. Deacon and Livy got to play with them for a little bit yesterday. Grandma was nice enough to color with the kids, and Deacon and Grandpa read several books together.

Last, but not least, we spent most of Memorial Day weekend potty training.  Overall it went really well. Deacon only had one accident the first day, and even told his nursery teacher he needed to go potty at church the next day. He had a few accidents on the third day, but I think it was because he wasn't feeling well. He ended up having a fever that evening and night and somewhat into the next day. We don't know what caused the fever, but luckily he seems to be doing better now. He did awesome on the fourth day of training and has loved his Paw Patrol and Super Hero underwear! He pretty much had a Paw Patrol weekend - he wore his Paw Patrol underwear, shirt, and socks, and watched a few episodes of the show. I'm glad it helped his potty training go better. Way to go Deacon!

He still loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and also likes Paw Patrol, Blaze, Special Agent Oso, Super Why, and Team Umizoomi among others, and has started to watch Dora with Grandma. He still likes hot dogs and Mac & Cheese, and also likes blueberries, "basghetti" (spaghetti/noodles/pasta), strawberries, suckers, gummy worms/bears, popcorn, fruit snacks, and juice. He likes to wrestle with Dad and pretend he is s super hero or Darth Vader. He enjoys playing hide-and-seek, having races, playing with balls, and getting wiggly-piggly rides from Dadda.  He loves tools and "fixing" things, playing with his cars, and his dinosaur toys. He is good at doing puzzles and likes to color, too. Deacon also enjoys reading books and is good to point out things in them and likes to go over what letters are on the book covers.
