October 2019

My kids, especially Deacon, love Halloween, so I try to pack in as much Halloween activities as we can in October. We decorated our house and have been enjoying going on walks around the neighborhood to see all of the Halloween decorations.

Deacon has really been into playing with Legos lately. He enjoys making his own little creations and ships. He is doing really well in school, even though it can be quite tough to get him to do his homework. He has lost two teeth so far (the two bottom front teeth) and the new teeth are coming in. Deacon has been drawing a lot lately, too! He has drawn and colored a ton of pictures for Halloween. I think it's great that he is creative and artistic, but I don't know what to do with all of his drawings. ..

Emerson likes pretending to be "Good-boy Spider-man" and using his "webs" to trap the bad guys. I have no idea why he has to say "good boy" before Spider-man, but I would prefer he be a good boy than a bad boy, so I won't question it. He also likes to pretend he is a cat. He found some Z Clif Kids bars in the cupboard the other day and is now addicted to them.  He had one for breakfast and lunch I think two days in a row and has been having them for breakfast for several days now. He also likes having a fruit cup with them.

UEA was on Oct 17-18. We had planned to go to Cherry Hill Scary Hill on Thursday, but it was too windy and cold. We decided to go to see Abominable. I had wanted to take Deacon to see this movie, but was planning on going in November. I also wasn't planning on taking Emerson, but sometimes your plans change and he got to go to his first movie in a movie theater. He watches shows well at home, like Mickey Mouse, but hasn't sat through a movie yet, so I wasn't sure how he would do. Luckily, he actually did really well, and as long as he had some snacks, he did pretty good. He sat on Grandma's lap for part of the movie, which was cute. It was a good movie and the kids enjoyed it.

On Friday, we went to Discovery Gateway and the kids played and got to decorate and paint pumpkins.

Somehow Emer got red paint in his hair:

Grandma Nelson came over that evening and gave both the boys a Halloween book. They loved them and then showed her their costumes. They both have a Ninja Turtle costume, too, but Emerson refused to put his on. He loves being Spider-man!

Transition to Pants

With the weather turning colder, I have started to have my boys wear pants and long sleeves most days. Emerson's transition from shorts to pants has not gone very well. The first day I had him put on pants, he tried on three different pairs and said that they didn't feel good; he ended up in shorts anyways. The next time I got him in pants, he wanted them folded at the bottom. When Deacon wears pants that are a little too long for him, he folds them up at the waist, but for some reason, Emerson insistent that they be folded at the bottom. There have been days when he wears pants, but then changes into shorts later on in the day. It has become a regular thing at Grandma's that he'll change into shorts while he is at her house. I can't figure out why this change has been so difficult for him, but it is pretty humorous. He is finally getting better at wearing pants now, but he still wants them rolled at the bottom, and will occasionally ask to wear shorts. I'm just not willing to let him wear shorts outside when it is cold, so there have been some days when he has worn shorts inside, but if he wants to go outside or somewhere in the car, he has to put pants on. He hated the little jeans I have for him for the first little while, but I had him try them on the other day and he wore them no problem, so at least we're making progress. Funny, funny Emerson!
