We have had a bit of a grump in our house the past
few days… this tends to go along with the phrase “don’t want it!” Last night I
was giving Deacon some options for dinner and he would just stomp his foot at
me and say “don’t want it” to everything I suggested. Somehow he decided to get
into his highchair for me and I gave him a plate of food. He told me he didn’t
want any carrots and then proceeded to pick up a carrot and eat it. He really
didn’t want to get his church clothes on yesterday or take a nap either. Maybe
he’s just tired, but this is a new phase for him.
Here are the kids playing with the flubber I made them:

| My mom and I took the kids swimming at the rec center in August. They both seemed to have a good time and enjoyed playing on the pirate ship and laying on their backs and tummies in the shallow water. |

We have also had an issue with Deacon keeping his
clothes and diaper on during his nap. This started a few weeks ago when my mom
went down to get Deacon from his nap and found him naked. This was
especially not good because he had also peed on the bed and floor. I tried
talking to him and reminding him to keep his pants on during his nap. He always
would say “pants on, okay,” but continued to take his clothes off. I gave him
some fruit snacks one day and he really liked them. I decided to try using them
as a reward if he kept his clothes on for his nap. Last week this was
successful and he got to eat his fruit snacks every day. I had my mom try a few
other “rewards” or taking away things he wanted to do, like color, after his
nap if he didn’t keep his clothes on, but those didn’t seem to work. Luckily,
he’s been doing well with this, so we will continue with it. He always wants
more fruit snacks, but he only gets one a day if he keeps his clothes on. When
he woke up yesterday morning he asked for fruit snacks and said he kept his
clothes on. It was really cute, but I told him they were only for after his
nap. We have only found him naked one time after he fell asleep for the night,
so hopefully he won’t take off his pajamas anymore if he gets into the habit of
always keeping his clothes on when he sleeps. I just wish I knew why he took
them off… is he hot, uncomfortable, bored? I guess I’ll never know. Silly,
silly boy!

| I'm sure he won't be happy if he ever see's this picture, but here is how Grandma found him one day after his nap. |
Deacon loves to talk and is talking really well. It's nice that he can tell me what he wants and it's fun to hear the funny things he says. Right now he loves sprinklers. We went on a walk last night and all he wanted to do was find sprinklers. He is quite fascinated by them. He does get worried that he is going to get wet if we get close to one though. He also likes to see them when we drive home from Grandma's house. One of our neighbors has a waterfall feature in the front of his yard and Deacon loves to look at that, too. He can see it from our window and likes to tell us if the water is off or on.
