Emerson's First Two Weeks

Well, Emerson has been to the doctor's office 5 times in his first two weeks. We took him to his first appointment the Friday after he was born and the doctor wanted us to bring him back the next Monday for a weight check and a bilirubin check. He gain 4 oz over the weekend and his bilirubin went down, so I thought we were doing great. Then on Tuesday his right eye started to have some yellow goop in it. On Wednesday it was worse and started to get stuck shut from the goop. I called the pediatrician and they suggested that I get him checked out to see if he had an eye infection. They said that if infants have an eye infection that goes untreated, it can spread to their brain stem. I took him in and and he did have an eye infection, poor guy! His weight was also the same on Wednesday as it was on Monday (7lb 4oz), so they had me bring him in again on Friday for another weight check and to check  on his eye. He gained another 4 oz and was 7lb 8oz on Friday and his eye looked much better. He still had some goop, but it was nothing like what it had been before. Then he went in the following Wednesday for his 2-week check-up. His eye infection had cleared up and he gained 7oz since Friday, yipee! Everything seems to be good now.

Stats:
Head: 14 1/4 in - 58%
Length: 20.5 in - 42%
Weight: 7lbs 15oz - 26%

Emerson has started to eat better now, about every 3 hours, and he sleeps a lot so far. Deacon slept a ton during his first two weeks of life, and then was awake a lot more after that. I'm hoping that Emerson takes a few more weeks to get out of the "sleep all the time" phase.

Also, I took Deacon to get his first haircut at an actual haircut place. When he was younger, I just took some scissors to his hair and cut it the best I could. After that, my Dad would cut it and did a good job, but Deacon hated it! He would cry and be so unhappy the entire haircut. I took him to Cookie Cutters last week to see how he would do and to get his hair cut before Emerson's newborn pictures were taken. He did so well! He got to sit in an airplane chair, which he was very excited about, watched a show, and got a balloon and sucker when he was done. I think he may have been a bit timid, which helped, but he did a great job. I was very happy with him and his hair cut.
