March - Deacon

Deacon

Deacon is just a busy boy! He's into a lot of things right now, and I like that he has a lot of interests. He's been helping me cook more dinners, and likes to "clean" our house with me when I vacuum. He also likes to make potions during his tub-time (he just adds water to a pitcher, but tries to make up funny ingredients like slime, skeleton bones, eyeballs, etc). What can I say, he loves Halloween. He trusts the kids at daycare way more than he trusts me and tells me things he hears from them like "Mom, zombies are really real." When I tell him that they are not real he just says "yes, they are." Of course what would I know, i'm only his Mom (: He keeps talking about some game called Five Nights at Freddy's that someone at his daycare plays and shows to him. I looked it up online and it looks like kind of a creepy game and is suggested for older kids, but I don't think there's much I can do about it at this point. He saw a Five Nights at Freddy's toy at the store one day with Matt and really wants it for his birthday, but I really really don't want to get it for him. I'm hoping that he'll forget about it by his birthday, or that he'll just be happy with what we do get him.

One fun thing we did this month is went bowling for a Junior Achievement event with my work. This is an annual event and the first year Deacon has been big enough to bowl. The event was 2 hours long and included two games of bowling each. It was probably a bit long for him, but overall I think Deacon had fun. And of course, Emerson was our good, little boy. He was a happy boy for the first hour, and then Matt was able to get him to fall asleep and he slept in his car seat for the last little bit.

Deacon loves his brother and likes it when I put Emerson in his bed with him in the morning. He had been asking me to take a picture of them for a while, so I finally did. They didn't turn out the best, but here they are:

We love that it is finally getting warm outside and that the kids can go out to play again. Deacon likes to help Dad in the yard, play with chalk and blow bubbles, ride his bike, eat popcicles, go on walks, and go to the park. We are looking forward to many fun things we can start to do now that it's warming up!

(This post also includes the first part of April)

My Mom's birthday was last Sunday, and I asked Deacon if he wanted to draw a birthday picture for her. He said sure and started out by drawing a jagged circle. He asked me what it looked like. I said a few things to which he answered "no." Then I said a potato, and he said "yes, it's a potato." He then added more lines to it and kept asking me what it looked like until I would say something he was happy with. After some time, it eventually turned into a dog. He turned the paper over and asked me what present we got for Grandma for her birthday. I told him that I was going to take Grandma to get her nails done when we go to St. George. He continued to draw on the back and when I asked him what it was when he was done, he said it was a map for Grandma to show her where to get her nails cut. He's a cutie!

The other night, Matt got home late and went into Deacon's room to tell him goodnight. Deacon told Matt that he could sit in his chair and talk to him for as long as he wanted. He said "Dad, you can sit in my chair and talk to me any time you want." He was probably just trying to stay up later, but I thought it was quite sweet.

Lastly, Deacon dislocated his elbow on April 4th. I was getting him ready for bed and since he didn't want to go to bed, he was being limp as I tried to get his pajamas on. I pulled him up from the floor to stand him up by his wrist and he said he heard a pop. I didn't hear anything and didn't think too much of it since he wasn't crying at first. He then said his arm hurt and that he couldn't move it. I took him into the other room to see Matt and he was acting okay, but wasn't moving his arm much. We decided we had better take him to Instacare, which closed in less than 8 minutes, but is luckily just a few blocks down the street from our house. I loaded him into the car and Matt rushed him down and made it in just as they were about to close. The doctor said that up to age 3-3.5, children's ligaments in their arm are not very strong and that they can get dislocated easily. He said that Deacon's arm was either sprained or dislocated and that he would pop it back in. If it was sprained, Deacon would cry from the pain of the doctor twisting him arm, but if it was dislocated, it should pop right back in. He twisted his arm and luckily, it popped back in. Matt said Deacon didn't even cry and was very brave. Within 5 minutes he was moving his arm again and was back to his normal self. I'm so grateful that we made it to the Instacare before they closed! I really didn't want to have to go to the ER and we would have had a terrible night if his arm had been left dislocated.
