Deacon - 5 Year Birthday

Deacon has been so excited to turn 5. A lot of 5-year olds have been having birthday parties, so we decided to give Deacon a friend party this year. I didn't feel like trying to make up games, activities, and prepare food, so we went to Chuck-E-Cheese in Layton. Deacon's birthday was on Saturday, May 19, and we did his party on Friday, May 18 from 4-6pm. He invited his friends Livy, Grace, Garrett, and Piper. We also invited his friend Glover from our ward, but he was out of town that day. I was worried that Deacon would not like having so many girls at his party, but it didn't seem to bother him at all. I think overall it went well and he had fun, but we definitely learned some things of how to make it better if we were to do it there again. The kids all got a "Play Pass" with points on it that they used to play the games. Deacon got a special birthday wristband to use for his Play Pass. It was difficult to keep eyes on all the kids, but they seemed to enjoy themselves. We then had some pizza and drinks, Deacon got to do a a special ticket blaster experience, and then Chuck-E-Cheese came out and sang happy birthday (Livy of course was afraid of him). We waited for quite a while after we ate for Chuck-E-Cheese to come out... we kind of just waited around, not really knowing what to do. We didn't end up having enough time to open presents, so next time, I would have him open them after eating pizza. The kids then had birthday cake and went and used the rest of their Play Points on games. When we got home, Deacon opened his presents from his friends.

On Saturday (Deacon's birthday), Deacon, Emerson, and I walked down to Main Street to see their annual Chalk Art event. It was fun walking around and seeing all the drawings. Deacon picked out a few of his favorites that he wanted me to take his picture with. We went home and had lunch and Emerson took a nap.

After Emerson's nap, we all went to Boondocks. Boondocks gives a free unlimited pass on your birthday if you sign up, so we have been taking Deacon there for the past few years. We got there later than I had planned, and therefore ended up staying later. Deacon loved it though. He played with Emerson in the Kiddie Cove, went on a 4D movie ride with Matt, played arcade games, went on the bumper boats, played a little mini golf, went on a Go-Kart ride with me, and played a little roller ball. There was a field with some horses by the mini golf area, and Emerson just loved them! He would have probably stayed by the horses for hours if we let him. He and Deacon liked petting them and feeding them grass. They were so cute with them. At the end of the night, Deacon used his tickets from the arcade games to get a red sword, a punch toy, and 3 candies. Unfortunately on our drive home, Deacon said he stomach and head were starting to hurt. He had wanted Chick-fil-A for dinner, but by the time we got there, he just wanted to go home. Poor guy was so worn out, he didn't even have time to open his presents and went right to bed when he got home. I guess a 5-year old can only take so much birthday celebrating in one day.

Emerson loved going back and forth on this little hill.

Since Deacon fell asleep on Saturday, we had him open his presents on Sunday morning. He was so excited and asked all morning if he could open them. He got a marble run, a dinosaur fingerling, Spider-man walkie talkies, a rope swing, a Halloween slime making kit, a Star Wars book, and a few shirts. All in all, I think he had a fun birthday weekend! He even got to open a present from my parents the next day and got another one from my Grandparents when we went to St. George. This kid loves his birthday!
