July

I'm getting so behind - we have been very busy this summer! There never seems to be enough time in the day.

Emerson - He loves bouncy balls and always wants to be holding one. He has been very attached to Matt lately - when I get him up in the morning, quite often he'll say "I want to see Dada." He also really likes tomatoes. Matt's dad planted some tomato plants in our backyard and Emer has been known to pull them off and eat them, even the little green ones. One day he was in the backyard with Grandma Fenwick and he knocked on the back door. When I opened it, he held up a big, red tomato to show to me and then took a big bite of it. He really likes strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, and watermelon right now, too. He sure loves fruit. He has been getting into watching shows a bit more. He likes to watch Mickey Mouse and Team Umizoomi and will actually sit and watch most of an episode. Lately, if he doesn't want to you put him down, he will spread his legs apart as far as he can, thinking that this will stop you from setting him down. He still says "hold you," meaning "hold me," which I think is adorable. Nursery is still a struggle and Matt and I have been taking turns going to nursery with him. He is very good natured most of the time, unless he wants something he can't have. I have been trying to teach him his colors using M&M's. When Deacon gets a candy for doing Up-Start, of course Emer wants a candy, too, so I give him a few M&M's. I think he knows the color orange pretty well now. He pretty much always says it's green first, no matter what color it is. He gets yellow and brown right sometimes. It's a work in progress. He is just so fun to watch and be around. It is cute to hear the things he says and watch the things he does.

Deacon - Matt has a robe that I am planning to give away to DI since he never wears it, but I don't know if that will happen now since Deacon has become quite attached to it. It is black, so he likes to put it over his body and chase Emer around, pretending his is a ghost or some other creature. He loves playing outside and helping with the boat and trailer. He went fishing with Grandpa Fenwick, Uncle Darin, Garrett, and Owen on the morning of Saturday, July 14 and had a fun time. I was told that no one fell asleep on the car ride, but both Deacon and Garrett took a nap on the boat. He seems to make a new friend everywhere we go - at Lagoon, at the park, at the zoo, at parades... I like this age where kids can be friends with anyone no matter what they look like or dress like, etc. I think he'll have fun making more friends when he starts Kindergarten. He is very smart and seems to enjoy learning. He like to write on papers and asks us the letters to spell different things. He is curious and asks questions that make you know his mind is trying to figure things out.

July has been busy! We have been going to Lagoon, doing things for the 4th and 24th, and enjoying the summer. The World Cup has been going on, so the boys have been wearing their Brasil shirts to show support.

The boys found a way to cool off:

On July 3, I took Livy and Deacon to the Splash Pad in NSL. I think this is something I want to do every year with them. I get off 2 hours early this day and the splash pad hasn't been busy at all the past two years. They were a little hesitant at first, but then got right in after a few minutes.

That night, we went and watched the fireworks in West Bountiful. We just park the truck on the opposite side of the freeway and set the chairs up in the back. It makes for a great spot and we can get out quickly once they are done.

My Aunt Laurie invited Deacon and Livy to be in the West Bountiful parade with her and her work (Lakeview Hospital) and help hand out superhero capes. We were supposed to be number 36 in the parade, but our float never came. We kept waiting and waiting and finally decided to go be in my parents float, who were also in the parade with their ward as #53 of 55 floats. Just about when we got to their float, the Lakeview float finally showed up. We ended up being right in front of my parents, so they were able to watch the kids in the parade. It was hot, but luckily the parade route wasn't too long. Deacon and Livy had a fun time and got a popcicle at the end. West Bountiful offers free activities at the park after the parade, so we went and did those. They had games and some bounce houses and both kids got some prizes.

That night, we invited some family over and did our own fireworks. Getting a good picture of all three kids is impossible. My parents and Grandma & Grandpa Nelson came and Grandma & Grandpa Fenwick watched some with us. Emerson kept singing "Happy Birthday" when we gave him the glow sticks. It was so cute!

On July 12, I took the day off and took Deacon and Livy to Lagoon-a-Beach. They had a blast and played/swam longer than I thought they would. Deacon liked the bigger pool with deeper water better, and I think Livy like the smaller kid area with the slides, but they both had a great time.

On July 18, my friend Jill and I went to see the Tim McGraw & Faith Hill concert. I love Tim & Faith and it was so fun to see them. I wish they had done a few more and different songs, but it was a fun night.

The Bountiful Handcart Days were on July 20-21 this year. We watched the parade on Main Street on the 20th with Todd's family (I am so grateful they let us share their spot), and then went to the park activities on Saturday, July 21. The kids loved the parade and Emerson even danced to some of the music from the bands this year. He kept wanting to eat all the candy, so it was hard to limit him to only a few (he loves candy!). He even got up and ran away a few times - I have no idea where he was planning to go, but he would just get up and go. Tonya and another lady told me Emerson was entertaining to watch, both in his dancing and random running aways. Deacon is so cute, he still doesn't quite understand the best way to get candy. He'll see someone hand out candy a little before him, so he'll run up and try to get it, but it's pretty much gone by the time he gets there. Then he'll see that they're throwing some out where he was before, so he'll run back and try to get some of that. He got plenty of candy, but it's funny to watch him. Livy had tubes put in her ears that morning, so she was a little tired and got a small fever that evening. I hope she was able to enjoy some of it. Deacon wanted to bring popcorn, so the kids munched on that and pretzels while we waited for the parade to get to us.

Saturday was sooo hot at the park for the activities! I think they have some fun things for the kids including a train ride, swings ride, fishing game, bounce houses, etc. I brought $20 with me, not intending to spend it all, but the activities are more expensive than I remember, so we used that and even got a few free tickets from Matt for him helping with the fish pond game.
Deacon got a blow-up alien, Emerson got a ball, and Livy got a princess head thing.

The next Monday, Emer had a temperature all day. I took him to Instacare and they said he had hand, foot, and mouth disease/virus. There no cure for it, so we just had to give him pain meds and wait it out. He seemed much better a few days later and luckily it seemed to be a pretty mild case.

We ventured to Lagoon again on Saturday, July 28:

Emer has been chewing on the monkey things on his car seat. He thinks it's funny when I say "don't eat your monkeys." He was very hot and tired after Lagoon and is in desperate need of a haircut, but Matt says no haircut yet.

We went to Lagoon one more time on July 31. We met up with my friend Paige and her kids Piper and Oliver. They are really cute kids and Piper and Deacon enjoy being together.
