Deacon: Deacon is becoming so creative. He really enjoys coloring pictures and cutting stuff out of paper and making different things. He's also become interested in ancient things, especially ancient Egypt and pyramids. He took an old box and made it into a tomb and drew and put together a mummy to lay in the bottom of it. He also created a whole Egyptian scene that he tapped to his wall in his room. It is so interesting to see what things interest him. He is doing really well with reading and is reading books that his school sends home. He doesn't have much interest in reading other books yet, but luckily he will read the ones from school. I hope we can find him some books he can read over the summer to stay up on it. I gave Deacon a Halloween coloring book a bit ago and he colored the entire book, every single page, within 24 hours. He was pretty proud of himself. I was happy he spent so much time staying busy. My Dad and I took Deacon and Livy to see the new Grinch movie at the end of the month. I felt so bad because my Dad hasn't been to a movie in years and Livy kept talking to him the whole time. I have taken her to movies before and she's been quite, but I guess it was different with Grandpa. Deacon seemed to enjoy the movie. We also saw Little Foot earlier in the month, and Deacon really liked that one. I enjoyed it, too. Livy asked me at the beginning, middle, and towards the end of the movie when it would be over. Then when it was over she exclaimed "that was so fun!" I can't always figure her out. Lastly, Deacon loves apples. When he wants a snack, he will ask for an apple like 80% of the time, along with cheese, fruit snacks, goldfish, yogurt, etc., but really like green apples.
Emerson: Still loves to randomly sing songs, which I love! A lot of people are impressed with how well he talks. I am just used to it, but it's nice to hear that others think he talks well. He has been able to talk and communicate well for a long time and it has made things a lot easier. He always wants a sucker/candy, especially now that he has a stash of Halloween candy. He knows his colors and basic shapes pretty well and is learning new things all the time. We have been singing "I am like a Star," and in the song it says "for I know Heavenly Father loves me." For the longest time Emer kept asking me "where is Rhino" after we would sing that song, followed by "up in the clouds?" I could not figure out what he was talking about. Finally I realized that "for I know" sounds like "rhino," and that's what he was talking about. He still doesn't quite get that it is not saying Rhino. Emer has now been saying "you can if you want to," and "I can if I want to," a lot lately. He says it in a very sweet voice, but if I tell him "no" to something, he will say "you can if you want to," or "I can if I want to." I have no clue where he picked this saying up from, but it is pretty cute. Sometimes when I kiss Emer on the cheek, he with point to his lips and say "no, this one." Emer also likes to hide, especially in plain sight. He will think he's hiding and say "I'm hiding," but you can clearly see him. He will also randomly say "I'm right here" or "here I am."
Outing to Scheels
Emerson went to Kanagroo Zoo for the first time this month. He did NOT like it at all first the first 1.5 hours. I would try to get him to go on stuff, and he mostly just wanted to stay by me. By the time I was about ready to leave, he finally started to go on stuff with Deacon and Livy and started to really enjoy himself. I guess it takes him a while to warm up to new things? Anyways, he even went on some really big blow up toys and slides by the end of it and we ended up staying quite a bit longer. He made a complete change from the first part of the outing. Deacon and Livy had fun running around and going on all the blow up things.
