Goodbye "B"

Throughout December, at bedtime I would ask Emerson if he was ready to throw his "b" (binkie) away. He would usually respond by saying "later," "not yet," or "tomorrow." Every once in a while he would say "yes," and then change his mind. Towards the end of the month, he did throw it in the garbage a few times, but then decided he wanted it back and I would have to go wash it off (the garbage in his room had barely anything in it). Finally one night he said "yes" we could throw it away and the garbage man could take it to the dumb. He threw it in the garbage and slept all night without it. After he fell asleep I took it and put it in a safe place, just in case, but wasn't planning on giving it back if I didn't have to. After that, he asked where it was or if he could have it a few times to which I responded that it was in the garbage at the dump and that he couldn't have it back, but for the most part he was done with it. Getting rid of Emerson's binkie was so much easier than the experience we had with Deacon. I remember I was getting so tired of getting up several times a night to Deacon crying because he couldn't find his "b," and I had a hard time finding it in the dark for him. Finally I decided for him that he was done and the next month was pretty miserable. Once he finally got over it, sleeping was much better for all of us, but it took a while. I do think that Deacon was more attached to his binkie than Emer was. Deacon would want it all the time and with Emerson, he really only used it when he slept, and even then, he played with it a lot and didn't always suck on it. Anyways, that's my little victory for the month and he's been doing great without his "b."
