COVID-19/Coronavirus Virus and Earthquake

3/19/20: I thought I should jot down some notes about what is currently going on. Sometime in mid-February we were made aware of of a new virus in China. This virus was named Coronavirus and has started to spread around the world. To try to keep it from spreading and to slow it down, everything started shutting down last week. One minute we would be told something is open, and then the next minute it would be closed. First, for some reason everyone started to panic buy toilet paper and bottled water. I could not figure out why this was happening, but because of this panic buying, these items are difficult to get. I went to Wal-Mart a week or two ago and notice many of the shelves were empty in the food department. I figured it was because it was Monday and everyone was doing their shopping for the week. I then saw a post on Facebook the next day showing a picture of the dairy section completely empty at Costco due to the virus. This has just been completely crazy! So that was what happened first. We have now been told to do something they've termed "social distancing." We are supposed to pretty much stay in our homes, keep 6 feet away from other people, and not go anywhere. Slowly, places started to close. Church has been cancelled, temples are closed, there are changes to missionaries, and General Conference will not be opened to the public. We are to have a church lesson at home and all the priesthood holders in the ward have been authorized to prepare the sacrament for their families and ministering families.

I was so worried that schools were going to close, but luckily Davis School District announced that they were going to stay open...But then the next day the Governor said that all schools K-12 were going to be closed for 2 weeks. We have spring break after the 2 weeks, so Deacon will be out of school for 3 weeks, and probably more. They are taking things a day at a time, but it's difficult when you hear one day that something is open, and then the next day it is closed. The government also decided that all restaurants must close their dining areas and only do take out or drive thru. Then the gyms and movie theaters closed.  Luckily, my work has let us begin to work from home this week. I have taken the boys to daycare a little and kept them home with me some. It makes working more difficult with them home, but Deacon has school work he received on Wednesday that he's supposed to do each day. It really is just a crazy time right now. I don't think everything can stay closed and everyone can be stuck at home for more than these 2 weeks. After a certain point, we have to start to live our lives again and not live in fear of this virus. The virus is said to hit the older population 60+ more and those with underlying conditions. I don't want anyone to get sick or die, but I think we are overreacting a little bit. A lot of people experience mild symptoms, and luckily it doesn't seem to effect children as much. Those with underlying conditions and that are over 60 should be more careful and stay at home more, but it's becoming pretty ridiculous. I think this is going to have a huge financial and economic impact on the entire world.

On another note, Utah (specifically Magna) was hit with a 5.7 earthquake yesterday morning. It hit at 7:09am and I woke up and said "Matt! Earthquake!" Then I said "The kids!" and ran to Emerson's room. It was pretty scary and everything shook pretty good for a few seconds. Luckily we didn't have any damage, but a few things fell off our bookshelf. I don't remember really experiencing an earthquake before, but it's a scary feeling. I don't think the boys really woke up from the earthquake, but more from us going in their rooms. They then came in our bed for a few minutes until it was time to get up. I was grateful it didn't happen in the middle of the night. There were some buildings damaged in Magna and some people displaced from their homes, but I don't think the overall damage was too sever. The Angel Moroni on the SLC temple dropped his horn.

I took this from someone else, but thought it was good:
