Park City Trip

We took the boys to Park City for the first time for a quick back-to-school trip on August 11-13. We stayed in a condo that had a king bed, a pull out queen bed, and a small kitchenette. It was small, but it worked out fine for the short time we were there. The place we stayed at was a bit of a maze, but it had some fun things. The first night we explored the hotel, ate dinner, and then went swimming in their indoor/outdoor pool. The kids really enjoyed playing tag and diving for their torpedo toys in the pool.

The hotel also had a little arcade that the kids were super excited to go to, but it was quite expensive ($1.50-$3/game). I told them we could go the next day after lunch. I thought the kids would sleep well after swimming so late, but that was not the case. Deacon woke up around 4:30am, and then kept waking up from then until about 7am when he finally wouldn't go back to sleep.

Once we all woke up and had breakfast (Matt made us pancakes), the kids convinced me to let them go to the arcade first. I figured it was probably best to get it out of the way so I wouldn't have to hear about it all day. I tried to explain to them that they would most likely not get much, but of course they thought they were going to leave with some big prizes. I gave them $10 each, and they went through that super fast. They both ended up with a small toy.

The hotel had a "Kids Club" that offered some kids activities. One of the activities was to complete a scavenger hunt for a prize. A few of the clues were a little tough, but Deacon figured them out. One said find a seat that's made with something that typically goes under your feet, and Deacon figured out that it was a bench made out of skis. After we completed the scavenger hunt, we explored the shops and ski area by the hotel. They Canyons has a free ski lift thing that takes you from the parking lot up to the ski lift. We were trying to decide what to do and we wanted to ride the ski lift, but it was going to cost us over $130 to ride that. This little lift was free and we tried that out and were pretty happy with it (except Deacon who said he was afraid of heights and didn't like it).

Since we didn't sleep very well, we decided to go back to the hotel and rest for a bit. The kids watched some shows while Matt and I kind of napped. After that, we went to turn in their scavenger hunt for a prize, and then played Bingo and Jenga by the pool. Then we went to eat lunch at Davanza's on Main Street. After that we walked up and down Main Street and checked out the shops. The kids had more fun doing this that I thought they would. There were a lot of stores with rocks and geodes that boys were interested in looking at.

I had planned to go on a hike this day, but it didn't work out and we did other things instead. After Main Street, we went back to the hotel and swam again and had dinner. Luckily, we slept much better the second night. We had to be out by 10am, and we decided we could go on a hike after we checked out. I forgot that Park City used to have some silver mines, so we found a hike that had some mining stuff. The boys loved checking out the old concrete buildings we found, as well as the mining stuff. It was a fairly shaded hike and pretty good overall. When we got back to the car, I noticed a tick was on Emerson's leg. Luckily it hadn't attached yet and Matt was able to take it off, but I'm sure glad I noticed it! Overall, we all had a fun time and plan to go again sometime.

Also, Emerson wanted to ride the free lift thing again after we checked out. Deacon said he did not want to go on it again, but when we got to it, he seemed fine and rode it much better the second time.
