Deacon loves Halloween more and more each year. I think he would still love it without the candy aspect - he loves the decorations, witches, mummies, spiders, cobwebs, Frankenstein, bats, etc, he loves getting dressed up in his costume, and just enjoys all the fun things that go along with it.
Our Trunk-or-Treat was kind of early this year on the 20th. It was a pretty cold night, so they decided to do the trunk-or-treating inside after we ate soup and rolls. I actually liked it better inside - the kids did a big loop around the church while the parents spread out and passed out the candy. Matt was going to bring Emerson down when he woke up from a nap, but he just kept on sleeping for a long time and never made it.
Originally, I had planned for Deacon to be a Ninja Turtle this year, but the costume I bought him last year was still way too big for him! I'm not very good at guessing what his size will be a year in advance. He told me he wanted to be a pumpkin, and if I couldn't find a pumpkin, he wanted to be a zombie, and if I couldn't find a zombie, he wanted to be a skeleton. Luckily I was able to find a skeleton costume he liked. I was hoping Emerson would fit in a panda bear costume my mom got for Deacon's first Halloween. I got it on him, but it was super tight, so I decided to get him a new costume, too. Pretty much the only ones the store had that fit Emerson was a pumpkin or a skeleton. I asked Deacon if it was okay if they were both skeletons, and he was fine with it. This was my first attempt at getting a picture of them in their costumes. It didn't turn out very well. (Livy is a Candy Fairy).
This year we went back to the Scary Hill at Cherry Hill. Deacon loved the Maze again, and both kids (Deacon & Livy) liked the hay ride; we did it 3 times in a row. We even got Matt to come along this time and Deacon was excited to show him the decorations and go through the maze with him. One of the bumper boats was broken, so they had to take turns going alone this year. They also played in the Hamster cage, trampoline things, and a bounce house.
We went to the library's Halloween event where they read stories, went trick-or-treating around the library, and then colored and put together a witch. All Emerson wanted to do was climb up the stairs. We all got the stomach flu a few days before this, so i'm glad we were all feeling well enough to go. We invited my friend Lauren and her boys, Oliver and Lincoln, to come with us, who also had the stomach flu the day before. It was a nasty one that transferred quickly!
The kids were not good at posing for pictures again!

We went to the Zoo's Trick-or-Treating event on Saturday, October 28. I knew it was going to be super crowded, but since we had a pass, I figured we might as well go. Luckily Matt was able to come along to this, as well. It definitely was crowded, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. We rode on the train and the merry-go-round, went through a Harry Potter spooky maze, and went trick-or-treating around the zoo. The kids didn't even want to stop and play at the park this time; they wanted to keep on going. I thought it was pretty fun event and it was a nice day.
On Halloween day, we first went to the doctor to get Deacon's tonsils checked out since they're huge! The doctor said that his tonsils belong in a jar - so he's scheduled to get them out at the beginning of next year. Deacon actually enjoyed going to the doctor's office because it was decorated for Halloween and some of the staff were dressed up.
Main Street hold a trick-or-treating event on Halloween from 4-6pm. The kids and I went to that first, came home and ate dinner, and then went regular trick-or-treating with Deacon's uncle and two cousins. They had a fun night! Unfortunately it was pretty cold, so I didn't let them go as long as i'm sure they would have wanted to, but between all the different events we did, Deacon and Livy have plenty of candy to last them for a while.
Happy Halloween!
I got Deacon a couple of Halloween books at Seagull Book and Tape this year. There is one called Five Black Cats that Emerson absolutely LOVES!! He brings it to us every day and wants us to read it several times. So far, it is the only book he will actually sit on our lap and listen to all the way through, and he'll do it over and over again.
Deacon did his first Halloween Program at preschool this year. He got to dress up in his costume and all the parents/families were invite to come see it and have cupcakes and witch's brew afterwards. One kid was sick, so Deacon got to do two parts in the program. He did a great job!
We were pretty slow in carving a pumpkin for Deacon this year. I think Matt and Deacon carved it on the 29th - but I guess late is better than never. They did a good job and Deacon was very happy with it.
