February

Poor Emerson has RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and an ear infection. He started getting a fever on Friday, February 2 and then had a runny nose and fever for the next 4-5 days. He started coughing and didn't sound good, so Matt took him to the doctor on Wednesday and they tested him for the flu and RSV, and the RSV test came back positive. He also has an ear infection in conjunction with the virus. This has been a rough sickness for him! He's had a really hard time sleeping, especially the first four days, and he's been pretty congested. I've been sucking his nose out, which the doctor said is really the only thing we can do to help him. RSV causes babies/young children to get really congested and stuffed up, so it can be really hard for them to breath. The doctor said he's about half way through the virus, so hopefully he'll start to get over it soon.

Emerson has become quite the climber. He climbs on any table, chair, or item he can! He's been saying "no" a lot lately and will even shake his head. If you try to feed him something he doesn't want, he shakes his head and says "no!" It's actually pretty cute. We're working on him saying "yes" now. He has been running around and getting chased by Deacon. It's fun to watch them play together.  He has also started to ask for Fruit Loops, which he calls "loop loops." I try not to give them to him very often, or if I do I mix them with Cheerios, but he sure likes them. He can also say "there he/is is," "I like it," and "hold it." I think right now his favorite foods are fruits (bananas, blueberries, and strawberries).

This is Emer on Friday, February 2. He fell asleep on our couch with Grandma around 10am (which was unusual for him). He was tired and not feeling good ):

On Saturday, February 3, Grandpa Mecham took Deacon and Livy on a walk by Legacy Parkway and then got them frozen yogurt at Costco afterwards. The kids had fun and reported that Sadie got too close to a cow and got kicked.

Deacon had a pretty fun Valentine's Day. He got to make a bag in preschool to hold his valentine's and pass around valentine's with the other kids. On Monday, February 12, Deacon and I went to Smith's to go grocery shopping and to get my Mom some flowers. For some reason, Deacon really wanted some flowers, too. I told him that if I got some from Dad, he could share them with me, but he wasn't very satisfied with that answer. I told him he could get a balloon, which at the time he seemed to be happy with. After what seemed like forever, he finally picked a heart shaped valentine's balloon and we went home. When we got home, he told Matt that he wanted some flowers, specifically the flowers that were in the black pot at Smith's (which I had I told him earlier that they were too expensive when he said he wanted them at Smith's). Since Matt is so sweet, he got Deacon the flowers in the black pot and gave them to him in the morning on Valentine's Day. Deacon is very happy with his flowers. Matt said this is probably the only time he will every buy his son flowers (:
I also got Deacon a few little other Valentine's gifts and I think he had a great day.

I finally let Emerson attempt to feed himself with a spoon. I started him with some yogurt, which may have not been the best choice, but he seemed to enjoy himself. He hasn't been eating very well with his sickness, so getting him to eat anything is a win.

On Saturday, February 10, Matt took Deacon to a hunting expo. He was excited to show me all the papers and a sticker he got to bring home. When I texted Matt and asked him how it was going, he said it was good, but that Deacon might not make it home:

Deacon is very into making "deals" and "plans" right now.  I guess it's our own fault, but if we ask him to do something he doesn't want to do or don't let him do something he wants to do, he'll say "okay, I have a deal for you..." or "I have a plan." One night he was trying to tell Matt his plan, but Matt didn't want to hear it because he knew it involved Deacon getting out of his bed. Deacon got frustrated and put his hand on his face and said something like "Dad, I need to tell you my plan." Maybe he'll be a great negotiator one day. He's also very into his birthday and keeps telling us what he wants for his birthday and what he would like to do. We keep telling him that his birthday is still a while away, but I guess it's hard for him to understand that.
